Why Bisbee Turquoise is so rare

Bisbee Turquoise comes from a single source: the Lavender Pit at the historic copper mine in Bisbee, Arizona. The turquoise was never mined for its own sake. It was found as a by-product of copper mining, mostly during the 1950s and 1960s, and much of it was famously carried out by miners in their lunch pails.

The mine closed in the mid-1970s, and no new Bisbee Turquoise has been commercially mined since. The stones available today come from old collections and stock gathered decades ago, which makes every genuine piece a true vintage gemstone. Prized for its rich blue colour, Bisbee is widely regarded as one of the rarest and most collectable turquoises in the world.
