Where Hubei Turquoise comes from

Hubei Turquoise is mined in the mountains of Hubei Province in central China, mainly in Zhushan County and Yun County. Turquoise has been mined in this region for thousands of years, and it is the source of almost all the turquoise traditionally worn in Tibetan jewellery.

Why it is genuine, high-quality turquoise

Chinese turquoise sometimes gets an unfair reputation, often because of cheap dyed imitations sold under the "turquoise" name. Genuine Hubei Turquoise is a very different thing. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has studied turquoise from Zhushan County and found it is often of high quality, with a dense texture and attractive, even colour.

The finest Hubei material has been compared to stones from some of the famous, now-closed Nevada mines, and today Hubei is one of the most important sources of quality turquoise in the world.

The stone in this ring is completely natural: it has not been stabilised, dyed or treated in any way. Only good-quality turquoise is hard enough to be cut and worn without stabilising, so you are buying a real, natural gemstone with a history stretching back thousands of years.
