A one-of-a-kind pendant, handmade in sterling silver and inspired by traditional Native American silverwork. A 12x10mm oval cabochon of genuine Egyptian turquoise sits at its centre, framed by a hand-finished beaded design, and hangs on a sterling silver belcher chain.

A piece of real Egyptian turquoise

This stone is a solid piece of genuine turquoise from Egypt. It has been hand cut and polished from the rough stone by skilled lapidaries, so what you are wearing is a true piece of the earth, with no metal or filler added. The stone has been stabilised to harden it, which helps protect its colour and keep it strong for everyday wear.

A gemstone with ancient history

Turquoise is one of the oldest gemstones known to humankind. Over 5,000 years ago, the ancient Egyptians sent great mining expeditions to the Sinai Peninsula in search of it, and they even worshipped the goddess Hathor as the "Lady of Turquoise".

To the Egyptians, its sky-blue colour represented the heavens, life and rebirth, and it was treasured in jewellery, amulets and burial treasures, including those of the young pharaoh Tutankhamun. Thousands of years later, turquoise became equally cherished by Native American cultures in the American Southwest, where it is still seen as a stone of protection and good fortune. This pendant brings those two great turquoise traditions together.
